![]() We went through a number of designs before arriving on the final design. An arrangement of alarm will provide to make alert the persons nearby if the patient needs any help. This will also eliminates the efforts of assistant required for handling of handicap patients by providing an arrangement of desk with wheelchair. This helps the patient to rest without getting shifted to a bed. In this project we propose a design of wheelchair whose backrest and a footrest can be controlled through a switch by the patient which will convert the wheel chair into a stretcher. This innovation made the wheel chair highly versatile and flexible in application. The forward, reverse and sideways motion of the proposed wheelchair is controlled with the aid of an electric motor and steering is operated by a mechanical pedal. This type of traction belt is responsible for contact with two steps at a time, thus enabling the wheel chair to move up or down over the steps. The centre of gravity is controlled by hydraulic shocks. The proposed wheel chair employs caterpillar track mechanism. The proposed design of the wheelchair alleviates aforesaid disadvantages and is able to climb steps, move more easily through flat surfaces and rough terrains and more importantly it is economical. However the existing step climbing wheelchair are designed only for that purpose and not economically designed for movement through flat normal surfaces. The major challenge faced by the existing designs of normal wheel chairs in the market is their inability to climb steps even with the help of a bystander. The proposed project envisages designing and fabricating a wheel chair equipped with versatile features aiding the physically challenged person to have more mobility while moving through various surface. This is a cost reducing project which helps mainly paralyzed patients to do their daily things. And also there is a lid on chair which can be opened to eliminate human waste. It is placed horizontally which pushes against a lever which lifts the main arm. Also the height of the stretcher can be adjusted using a Hydraulic jack manually. Lead Screw translates turning motion into linear motion. These positions can be achieved by a lead screw connected with a hinge joint. Here we are developing a system which is capable of shifting various positions (Chair, Semi-Chair and Stretcher) manually. There is a need for a wheelchair cum stretcher to facilitate the disabled patient's mobility and to provide a novel medical equipment for use in the Indian hospitals. Understanding the various issues regarding the mobility equipment and introducing a better design will be an asset for the medical field and helping hand for disabled individuals. Transferring the patients from wheelchair to stretcher or to the medical bed is always an issue for the attendant or helper. Mobility aids are useful for patients for transportation and a replacement for walking especially in indoor and outdoor environment. With the handles and transport castors, the scale is also mobile and can be stowed away in a space-saving manner.In India the number of disabled individuals is increasing every year.
